Fishing Derby

Austin's day DID get better once we went to the Cub Scout fishing derby. A Westwood family, the Hinseys, have a really nice stocked pond that they graciously let the Cub Scouts use each year. The boys were excited to begin their fishing experience.

Josh helped Austin with his casting, and I helped Austin with the baiting of the hook (Austin was not eager to touch live worms). The result of the teamwork = Austin caught two fish! Boy, he was proud!!
He earned his Fishing belt loop for learning the rules and laws of fishing in Henry County, following the rules of fishing at the Hinseys' pond, and catching his own fish. All the fish were thrown back so that the boys will have another chance in the spring to work on their new skills.

  1. Yay! I'm so glad the day got better for him. Was he willing to hold the fish after he caught them? It looks like someone else had to hold it for him to get his picture taken. :) I know I wouldn't be willing to touch the worms or the fish.
