Q&A with Miss Karsen

I realize it has been a long time since I have posted. We have been busy enjoying the summer with swimming and friends. For today, though, we will pick Karsen's brain. Aside: shouldn't take long, and for those who think I am being mean, you also know that you understand because she is very distractable. Questions will be posed by me, her mom, and all answers will be answered by the one and only Karsen Morgan.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in the summer?
A: Play soccer and play sky ball.
Q: What is a sky ball?
A: A sky thing that you bounce really high.
Q: What are you looking forward to when you start kindergarten?
A: To play kitchen with Dillon and Ellen.
Q: Who will be the cook?
A: Me.
Q: What will you cook?
A: Bacon and pancakes and sausage.
Q: What will you do if your friends get sick from the food you cook?
A: Help them and give them dish medicine.
Q: What is dish medicine?
A: It is a medicine with a dish in it. It is a white pill.
Q: It sounds hard to swallow a dish. What do you think?
A: Yeah.
Q: When Miss Beth tells you recess is over and you need to learn, what would you like to learn?
A: Reading.
Q: What books will you read?
A: Madeline. Shrek.
Q: I think Shrek is a movie.
A: Sometimes it's a book.
Q: What is your favorite part of Shrek?
A: The part where Puss claws Shrek. Then Shrek screams.
Q: When you see Austin at recess, what will you say to him?
A: I'll say, "What are you doing?" Then I'll wonder if he will want to play with me. He'll play kickball but I would rather play on the slide.

Summer fun

Last week Karsen attended the cheer camp put on by the New Castle high school cheerleaders. She loved the lifts, and enjoyed doing cheers, dances, chants, and showing her spirit. Here is a picture of her on one of the spirit days, Crazy Hair Day.Here is a picture of her and Taylor, future NCCHS cheerleaders.
Austin's first season of Little League baseball is almost coming to an end. He has played in the Rookie League, for first year players, but also has made appearances in four minor league games with his older baseball teammates. He has improved so much and is looking forward to next year after some time off.
The most handsome Little Leaguer in town, yes?

Wolf Cub Party

Austin has been in Cub Scouts since last August. The first level is the Tiger Cubs, and last night the boys had a ceremony/party for completing all of their Tiger requirements and becoming Wolf Cubs (the 2nd grade level). Here are the boys listening attentively. Ha.
After hot dogs and macaroni, and lots of Cheetos, and lots of running around, they received their Wolf hats, neckerchiefs, and slides. They had to tell what their favorite part of Tiger Cubs was, and Austin said the Fishing Derby.

Then there was a marshmallow roast and s'more making. Since Austin doesn't eat chocolate, Karsen enjoyed this part much more than he did.Congratulations Austin, Andrew, Drew, Nathan, Caleb, and Connor on your Wolf status!

Cubs vs Twins

Yesterday, Josh, Austin, Amy, Keith, and I went up to Chicago for the Cubs/Twins game at Wrigley. As is usually the case when the Morgan's go up to Wrigley for a game, Ted Lilly pitched and the Cubs won by one run.

The Cubs and Twins fans in our vehicle all behaved rather nicely and no rude comments were made toward each other or each other's team. Also, aside from the fact that one family's tickets were forgotten when we got to the meeting up place, and they had to be retrieved resulting in an extra-long meeting up for some of us, we made pretty good time up to Chicago.
If my father worked as a beer salesman at Wrigley, and had longer straightened hair, this would be what he looks like. We tried to get closer for a picture but did not want to appear stalker ish. Also, Austin has decided he now wants to be called Blake. Apparently I should have named him that. I think I should have named him Drama, because most of the way home was "OH my feet are so HOT. I feel like I am walking in hot coals they are so HOT." Or 1/2 hour after we had eaten dinner at IHOP, "OH I am so STARVING. My stomach feels like it is shrinking it is so hungry." Etc, etc. Finally he fell asleep, but up until then I think he had a fun time.

Ivanhoe's

Today we went to Ivanhoe's to meet Amy and Luke, Erin, Megan, Maria, Max and Meryl. For those who don't know, it is a little diner in Upland with the most varieties of ice cream and milkshakes most of us have ever seen.

Some eventful happenings from Ivanhoe's included Austin announcing that he was in charge of the children's table (since he is so adult, according to him), Meryl attempting to initiate a food fight by throwing a wadded up napkin at the boys, Austin being told NOT TO DARE throw the tater tot which was about to be hurled at Meryl using all of his Little League learned skills, Max and Austin being allowed to go in the restroom under close supervision (outside the men's room door) but unfortunately Max was "not tall enough" to wash his hands, Luke cheesing for the camera, Austin eating only vanilla soft serve out of the 100's of ice cream choices, all of the children learning Austin's baseball game cheers and chants (Let's get fired up, burnin' baby, burnin' up, and yes, I did hear this over and over from Upland to Anderson, as did many of the cars we passed on I69), and Meryl practicing HER pitching skills with rocks in the parking lot toward certain other people's vehicles in the parking lot. A good time was had by all, I'd say.
Also, for those who don't know how advanced my nephew Luke is, well, he is, at age 1, putting his own shoes on. I think.
When we returned home, there was another surprise: the kids jerseys for soccer camp (in July) had come in the mail, so of course there was much excitement trying them on.

Rummaging

The kids had a great time this morning at the neighborhood rummage sale. We didn't put anything out, but many of our neighbors have older children and so Austin and Karsen found some treasures that they reclaimed for their own. Austin found many Pokemon items, including several baggies of cards and a little tote, and Karsen found a Prince for her Barbies, and a doggie purse, and an old Pound Puppy tote with three Pound Puppies in it (I remember those from the 80's)...the Pound Puppies were especially a bargain because the three stuffed dogs and the doghouse tote were altogether 10 cents.
Austin had his last day of school Monday so we have been swimming a couple of days at Papaw Jay and Grandma Hall's pool. Austin went to a friend's to play one day while Karsen had her first eye checkup. 20/20 for right now.
Austin also had a baseball game last night and played all of the infield positions, and played 3rd base twice. NO OUTFIELD (which he hates, there is not much Rookie League action in the outfield). His defense has improved so much and he seems more comfortable in the field. He had his best hit ever, also last night, it was kind of a long line drive and we were so excited for him.
Since I get to go in to work late tonight (have to use up some of those PDO hours) we are getting to spend a nice afternoon together and will go to their cousin Taylor's 8th birthday party later this afternoon. We're all enjoying the deck on the front of our house that Josh and Jay finished last week.
